President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended the National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Summit 2018 at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City.

The two-day Summit from June 21 to 22, 2018 was a culmination of the ICT month that centered on the theme, ‘Empowering the Filipino through Digital Transformation’. It aimed to present and demonstrate how Filipinos can be empowered through digital transformation of government processes that provide efficient services and fast access to accurate information.

In his speech, President Duterte reiterated the government’s pursuit for technological development. “Itong technology and the desire of our country to at least come into parity to others in terms of modernization of technology has a very long story. Secretary would know because he was the one that I commissioned to convey the message,” he said.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Acting Secretary Eliseo Rio highlighted the administration’s projects in the next couple of years such as a low cost and more efficient Broadband Plan for the establishment of 200,000 Wi-Fi access points across the nation.

The Summit was participated by the DICT personnel, Chief Information Officers Forum (CIOF) Foundation, ICT managers, representatives from the academe and private sector, as well as national and local government officials.
